Altea Algar project approved on condition of Bernia Mountain reserve
The Altea project to urbanize more than two and a half million square metres near the mouth of the Algar will be allowed to go ahead provided the municipality reclassifies some 4.6 million square metres on Bernia Mountains as non-buildable forestry land.
The Algar project had been ‘on the books’ inside Altea Town Hall for some time, and is a pet scheme of two building companies: Altea Futura S.A. and the Ballester Group.
The Algar project was approved by both the PP and the Socialists on Altea Town Council in 2002, and envisages the creation of an eighteen-hole golf course, 5,260 homes, three commercial centres, four hotel areas, a biopark and the transformation of the quarry into a leisure park.
