Spanish Socialist party under attack
The Socialist Government yesterday received a large number of attacks from various sides on various points.
It was revealed yesterday that a high ranking official from the Interior Ministry acting on orders from the Minister – Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba – traveled to France to speak with Laurence LeVert, one of the judges charged with investigations into the activities of the Basque terror group Eta in France, and formally asked her to ‘ease up’, according to revelations in one daily paper.
The Prime Minister confirmed that negotiations would take place between the Socialists and Eta/Batasuna with or without the support of the conservative Partido Popular. PP Secretary General Angel Acebes accused the Government of ‘handing over the keys of State to terrorists, and demanded that the Socialists ‘look into the eyes of the victims and not the terrorists’.
Socialist General Secretary Pepiño Blanco continued to accuse the PP of lying over what happened between March 11 & 13, whilst Arnaldo Otegi calmly appeared as a guest speaker in a pro-Eta meeting in the Basque Country
